A Pair Of Trump Tweets Hint At A Desperate, Guilty Man.
Trump Tweets Comey Not Fired Due To Russia Investigation?
Trump devolved into a full Twitter meltdown regarding the April 17th release of James Comey’s book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership. In frenetic tweet after tweet Trump smeared Comey as a liar, a leaker and “slime ball” who should be in jail. It is part of a Trump orchestrated Republican Party wide effort to smear the Former Director of the FBI, that includes such childish banalities as a “Lyin Comey” website.
Trump really can’t claim Comey lied because Trump claims to have cleverly made Comey tell the truth with his notorious “Comey better hope there are no tapes” tweet.
Trump’s Tweet war against Comey continues unabated. On the morning of April 18th Trump tweeted the following:
When suspects get desperate, and feeling trapped, they often start backpedaling. They try to get away with contradicting what they previously said to undo the damage of prior admissions. On May 11, 2017 Trump told NBC’s Lester Holt:
I was going to fire Comey knowing there was no good time to do it. And in fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself — I said, you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story.
In his termination letter to Comey, Trump referred to the Russia investigation saying, “I greatly appreciate you informing me on three separate occasions that I am not under investigation.”
The day after firing Comey, Trump met with Russians on May 10, 2017 and told them:
“I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job. I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”
Trump’s contradicting himself is understandable. Firing Comey for investigating the Trump campaign could be viewed as obstruction of justice. With the release of Comey’s book possible obstruction charges have received renewed attention. So Trump is trying to say now the Russia investigation was not the reason he fired Comey, even though on multiple occasions he said before that it was.
This is an animal trying to chew its foot off to escape the trap it is in.
Trump Tweets About Stormy Daniels And Seems To Know More Than He Should.
Trump stayed uncharacteristically quiet about the Stormy Daniels hush money affair. Then the office, home, hotel room and safe deposit box of Michael Cohen (Trump’s longtime personal attorney) were raided by no knock search warrant armed FBI agents. Prior to that, Trump’s one real comment, on Air Force One, threw Cohen under the bus by claiming Trump had no knowledge at all of the hush agreement and porn star payola. The FBI cited those comments in court when defending the search warrants against Cohen. You would think Trump would have learned his lesson to keep quiet regarding the Daniels matter, but not this President.
On April 17th Stormy Daniels appeared on “The View” to release a composite sketch of the man she alleges threatened her, and her infant daughter, in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2011. Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti, dramatically offered a $100,000 reward to whoever can identify the man in the picture. The picture quickly spread through the internet. Some jokingly suggested the picture looks like Tom Brady.
A sane person would just let it pass. But nope, this President is not sane. Instead Trump tweets saying:
I have a question. Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, the sketch is not true. How would Trump know? How would Trump know unless he knew what the guy really looked like? After all, Trump can’t know that Daniels was not threatened by someone in that parking lot.
Michael Avenatti, the attorney for Stormy Daniels is already threatening to sue Trump for defamation because of the tweet.
Such a defamation suit would be difficult because Daniels bears the burden of proving the falsity of Trump’s tweet, and she doesn’t have that proof now. But why do this and give Avenatti another basis for discovery against the President? Avenatti also upped the reward to $131,000, an amount just in excess of what Stormy Daniels received from the Hush Agreement.
