A Proposed Statement From President Biden (Military Holds Related)
I propose that President Biden immediately release a statement reading something like this.
From The Office Of The President of the United States
For too long Senator Tommy Tuberville, acting in a rogue-like manner, has unilaterally held up routine promotions of senior officers in the United States military. Senator Tuberville’s actions have now, or will soon, impact three-fourths of America’s senior officers, permanently impacting their careers and their families.
More seriously, Senator Tuberville’s approach is greatly compromising this nation’s national security as entire major commands, and even branches of the service, do not have appropriate commanders. “Acting Commanders” are not commanders and often lack the same authority. It also confuses the line of command succession that in wartime could have devastating consequences. In my view this is now a crisis and action must be taken.
Senator Tuberville justifies his actions based on matters of policy related to the rights of women service members to receive appropriate, legal, and often necessary reproductive healthcare. The appropriate venue for considering such matters of military policy is through legislation, not this wholesale compromising of our military leadership and national security. As President I must now consider what can be done to mitigate the damage to national security caused by Senator Tuberville’s irresponsible actions.
For me, this is very simple. As the Commander in Chief, charged with health and welfare of American soldiers, I should not send women soldiers to bases where they cannot receive healthcare they need, and can’t be sent elsewhere to get it. There are four current active duty military bases in Senator Tuberville’s state of Alabama.
- Fort Novosel (formerly Ft. Rucker)
- Maxwell AFB
- Redstone Arsenal
- Anniston Army Depot
I am concerned for the health and welfare of women soldiers stationed at these bases. Accordingly, I am directing the Secretary of Defense to evaluate the feasibility of closing these installations, or greatly reducing them, and relocating their missions, activities and personnel to other facilities. In particular, I am directing the Secretary of Defense to evaluate the potential impact on national security from such transfers in comparison to the ongoing and very real damage to national security from Senator Tuberville’s hold on promotions.
It is my expectation that the Secretary of Defense will report back to me with concrete findings and recommendations within 30 days.
