Best Comments On the Utah Legislature’s Rap Video.

Note: While tagged “parody” none of this is actual parody. This all actually happened. It is tagged parody because these people managed to parody themselves without meaning to, taking the art form to its highest level . . . or lowest.

The Utah legislature did a rap video. Seriously, they really did, no kidding. The video is intended to explain how a bill becomes a law. You know, the thing School House Rock did quite well half a century ago. Perhaps the concept could stand some updating with a rap beat, but the Utah legislature would NOT be the first choice to do it, or even the infinity choice.

If you have not seen it, there is nothing I can do to prepare you for this. I can only advise to watch at your own risk. What you are about to see carries the real risk of permanently damaging your sense of rhyme and rhythm (I was safe because I don’t have those anyway).

I’m sure you were congratulating yourself for bravely making it through, until the very end and the . . . the . . . “tongue.” That alone moved this video from PG-13 to R.

The American people stepped up to the plate. The comments after the video provide suitably pithy reviews beyond my own abilities for satire. Here are some of my favorites:

  • This makes Rebecca Black’s Friday sound like John Legend’s All of Me…
  • God, please make me deaf.
  • That’s the whitest thing I’ve ever seen, and I’m from Denmark.
  • They did it indeed. They killed music. It is dead. It will never come back.
  • When he said, “I’m hooked into the youth” he should’ve followed it with, “but not like Roy Moore was”.
  • This made me go back to studying because doing that is less painful.
  • That tongue in the end was the cherry on the top of the cringe cake.
  • I’m white and this video was so cringingly white that my eyes and ears are scarred for life.
  • That song is a human rights violation.
  • The worst thing white people have done since The Trail of Tears.
