Claiming there is a media smear campaign against Trump is turning facts (as my father used to say) backassward. Any smear here is by Trump of the media. Again and again Trump lies about the media labeling truthful reporting “fake news” and asking why something isn’t being reported when the answer is because it is not true.
- Trump says pictures of his inauguration showing less attendance than at Obama’s are fake news. The pictures accurately reflected the comparative attendance.
- Trump demands to know why the “fake news” isn’t reporting that crime is at its highest rate in 40 years. The reason is simple, the claim that crime is at its highest rate in 40 years is a flat out Trump lie.
- Trump claims the “fake news” media is not reporting that 122 prisoners released by Obama have returned to the battlefield. Again, the media is not reporting it because it is a flat out Trump lie. The vast bulk of those 122 were released by Bush.
- Trump claims Chris Cuomo of CNN advanced “fake news” by not asking Senator Blumenthal about his false claim that he served in Vietnam. Trump lied, it was Cuomo’s first question to Blumenthal in that interview.
I could go on and on with such examples. It’s just ridiculous that anyone gives Trump any credibility regarding his whining about “fake news.” He has zero credibility.
In the meantime, in the sphere of smears, Trump repeatedly declared that the media is the “enemy of the American people.” A more chilling, irresponsible and dangerous statement by an American President is difficult to conceive.
