The NYT claimed wiretapping was used to monitor Trump’s associates.

False the NYT said no such thing.

They also claimed that these wiretaps were borne of ‘counterintelligence’ which indicates FISA

Not necessarily, for example it could have come from foreign intelligence sources, nor is FISA required to tap things in foreign countries, like Russia (which is the most likely thing that happened). However, “indicates FISA” (an interpretation or in this case spin on your part) is not what you said. What you said was “It [the New York Times] claimed wiretap data was used in the investigations of Trump associates and it was most definitely from FISA warrants.”

It does not mean that these FISA warrants or the wiretapping was directly targeting Trump’s associates.

Which would me that Trump’s claims that “my phones” were wiretapped are lies, even if “my phones” is irrationally extended to phones that are not his phones but rather phones of associates.

Slow down and read.
