Imagine It Was Obama . . .

Nothing compares.

Many conservatives, increasingly unable to independently defend the dishonesty and corruption of the Trump Administration, are now resorting to a claim that Obama (and/or Clinton) were even worse. Really? Were they?

I certainly make no claim that either demonstrated perfect fidelity to honesty, but not even the Obamas and Clintons so routinely peddled in stupid lies, and contradicted themselves with more lies, in so little time as this administration. Nor did they approach the open, self serving corruption of the Trump Administration.

I generally try to turn this around on these people by asking them to imagine if Clinton or Obama were doing these things. Much of the point is that they have to imagine, because not even Clinton or Obama ever went close to this flagrantly far, but imagine if Clinton or Obama did. How would they feel about that?

Imagine if Hillary fired the person investigating her and then threatened him.

Imagine if Obama when caught in lies offered the excuse “I’m busy.”

That’s just two tweets from today. But let’s add some context, shall we?

Imagine if Clinton, before firing the person investigating her, demanded from him a pledge of personal loyalty which he refused.

Further imagine this was the third person Obama had fired who was investigating Obama or his campaign. The list of people investigating the Trump campaign that Trump has fired now includes Jim Comey, Sally Yates and Preet Bharara.

None of this even gets into the financial stuff. Imagine if Obama refused to release his taxes (people like Trump went ape over his birth certificate), or if Clinton used the State Department to promote her own country club, or if an Obama Administration spokesman openly hawked his wife’s business, and so on and so on.

The votes on impeachment would have already been taken.
