A study by the National Academy of Science has weighed on the value of wearing masks to control the spread of the Coronavirus. The study concludes it is the most important thing we can do. I’ll just quote from it.
“Our results show that the airborne transmission route is highly virulent and dominant for the spread of COVID-19 . . . Our analysis reveals that the difference with and without mandated face covering represents the determinant in shaping the trends of the pandemic. This protective measure significantly reduces the number of infections. Other mitigation measures, such as social distancing implemented in the United States, are insufficient by themselves in protecting the public . . .
We conclude wearing of face masks in public corresponds to the most effective means to prevent interhuman transmission, and this inexpensive practice, in conjunction with simultaneous social distancing, quarantine, and contact tracing, represents the most likely fighting opportunity to stop the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The study makes clear that the reason the United States has failed to contain Coronavirus, while many other nations have succeeded, is because mask use is much less here. That failure is perhaps best illustrated by this incredible graph.
The lesson from this is quite simple. If you want your life to return to normal, if you want the economic recovery to continue, please wear a mask when out in public.
