No, I don’t “know it.” The overwhelming number and regular pattern of such demonstrably false statements creates a powerful dilemma allowing for only two possibilities.

  1. The President constantly deliberately lies.
  2. The President cannot recognize reality. He is divorced from reality.

I’m not sure which of those possibilities we are supposed to accept as less concerning or why.

It can also be a combination of these. In my experience, for example, there is no such thing as an honest Birther. When he rode that Birther horse he had to know he was lying. He had to know that claiming Ted Cruz’s father was involved in the JFK assassination was a lie.

In other cases he may just be delusional, which is also not a character trait we should regard as desirable in a President.
