The USS New York is one of five United States warships heading to Florida to provide emergency relief in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The ship, partially built of steel from the rubble of the twin towers destroyed on 9/11/2002, sailed on 9/11/2017 towards South Florida.
The USS New York is an amphibious transport ship whose services could be of great assistance. It contains several helicopters that can be of immediate use and has communications capabilities greatly desired as the lower Florida Keys remain almost completely cut off from communications. Marines on board can land with vehicles for transporting relief supplies.
I’m an Army guy, but kudos to the Navy.
