Before Mark Meadows decided to plead the 5th to dodge testifying to the January 6 Committee he handed over thousands of documents. The documents included 36 page Power Point presentation outlining nothing short of a military coup to overturn the results of the election. The document was dated “January 5, 2021” one day before the Constitutionally mandated counting of the electoral college votes by Congress, and one day before a Trump inspired assault in the Capitol would delay that vote. A delay that was necessary for the planned military coup to work.
The heart of the plan was really quite simple and based on the lie that China somehow changed votes for Trump to votes for Biden. First Trump declares a “National Security Emergency” where Congress is briefed but otherwise plays no role. All the votes in all the states are declared invalid.
Next, the plan relies on Vice President Pence to delay the counting of electoral college votes.
Then U.S. Marshalls seize all the ballots in the entire country. Handpicked by Trump military leaders then recount the ballots.
The plan didn’t come to fruition, there was a fly in the ointment and that fly was Pence. Pence refused to go along with stalling the electoral college vote. If the plan was going to see the light of day another way to delay the counting of the electoral college vote would have to be found . . .
Shortly after Senators had been evacuated from their chamber Trump talked by phone to Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama urging him to use objections to further stall counting the electoral college votes. At 7 pm on January 6, with the electoral college vote already stalled for hours by the insurrection, Rudy Giuliani attempted to call Tuberville back. However, what with Giuliani being Giuliani, he screwed up and called Senator Mike Lee instead. He left a voice mail intended for Tuberville beseeching him to challenge the votes in ten states to further slow the process.
“I’m calling you because I want to discuss with you how they’re trying to rush this hearing and how we need you, our Republican friends, to try to just slow it down . . . I know they’re reconvening at 8 tonight, but . . . the only strategy we can follow is to object to numerous states and raise issues so that we get ourselves into tomorrow, ideally until the end of tomorrow.” — Rudy Giuliani.
Just what would have happened by the end of that next day? Would Trump have declared that state of emergency the and attempted the coup outlined in the Meadows’ Power Point?
