The Apprentice: Coronavirus Reboot Version.

Sunday Trump took to Twitter to reduce the Coronavirus to being all about him . . . and his ratings. “President Trump is a ratings hit” he declared. He was so shallow as to compare his wonderful ratings to the TV show “The Bachelor.” Yes America, this really happened.

Some follow up tweets got into the specific glorious numbers. This time upping he upped his game to compare his numbers to Monday Night Football.

The comparison to a primetime sitcom seems tragically appropriate for those who watch the briefings. It’s another funny episode of “Overcrowded Hospital” where Nurse Lovejoy whimsically steals Dr. Stockman’s underwear to make protective face masks. Hilarity ensues.

That’s what this crisis means to Trump. As thousands of Americans suffer and die, as millions become unemployed, with the epidemic worsening every day and no end in sight, Trump treats this like just another reality TV show. All that matters is his ratings.

Trump is like the ratings obsessed character in the fake reality series portrayed by Richard Dawson in the movie “The Running Man,” or perhaps the ratings preoccupied Capital City in “The Hunger Games.”

That is the America Trump believes we now are. For Trump this crisis is just another win for him in the TV ratings war. Panem et circenses.
