The Paul Pelosi Gay Lover Conspiracy Theory

As I write this I am confident that the bulk of the MAGA world believes that Paul Pelosi, and the man who fractured his skull with a hammer, David DePape, are gay lovers. They are convinced that what occurred was some sort of gay tryst gone bad. They believe this even though the police confirm DePape broke in, pictures (more on that in a minute) show where he broke in, that Paul Pelosi called 911 and stayed on the line while interacting with DePape, that DePape was asking for Nancy Pelosi and had zip ties, and of course, police witnessed the assault. Police have also since confirmed that Pelosi and DePape did not previously know each other.

The horrifying motive for this lie is fairly obvious. DePape had a social media history establishing him as a MAGA warrior. Needing to deflect from this the MAGA world has chosen to smear the victim of an attempted murder. They simply have no souls. I have previously written about the MAGA reaction to this effect that includes new Twitter owner Elon Musk, 2000 Mules hoaxer Dnish D’Souza, and various other MAGA internet trolls.

So let’s evaluate the origins of this insanity. The pushers of the theory primarily claim two pieces of evidence.

  1. Both men were in their underwear.

It is easy to explain Paul Pelosi being in his underwear, it was 2:30 am. But those pushing this point demand to know “who breaks into a house in just their underwear?” They insist this suggests the two lovers got into a spat that involved a hammer.

So where does the story come from that DePape was in his underwear? As it turns out it comes from a single San Francisco TV station that later retracted the story. Alas, the lying horse was out of the barn, and Trumpers refuse to see the retraction.

It started with KTVU News in San Francisco in THIS ARTICLE. You won’t see it in that article now because it has been removed. At the very bottom of the article, in easy to miss print, is the statement: “CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story misstated what clothing the suspect was wearing when officers found him.”

Of course, that should be the end of it, but the conservative social media sphere is just pretending the retraction did not happen.

2. The Glass For the Broken Window Is Outside.

The pushers of the gay lover theory point to this picture of the glass door where DePape gained access. It shows glass on the outside (and the inside) of the house.

They insist that it is impossible for glass to be on the outside if DePape was striking from the outside. They claim all the glass would be inside the house. Thus, they argue the gay lovers struggled inside the house first, and broke the glass, or something like that. It should be noted that Paul Pelosi is 82, and DePape is 42.

I happen to know this not true. Once my car was broken into. The thief broke a side window to the car. There was all sorts of glass on the outside of the car. These nuts would have you believe the thief broke my car window from the inside of the car.

In fact, various people on Twitter stepped up to demonstrate that glass could fall outside even when struck from the outside.

No matter how convincing that is, the gay lover theory does not die. The police have now rather clearly stated Pelosi and DePape did not know each other previously. That it was only the two of them in the house and they fought over only one hammer.

The response is predictable. The police are part of the conspiracy. The police are lying. Back the blue. They need the lie so the stick with the lie.
