The Russian Army's performance in WW2 was a mixed bag, and their initial incompetence mirrored what we see today. The Germans were beat by impossible logistical lines and weather they did not plan for. Now those problems beset the Russians. They failed to learn the lessons they taught the Germans.

The Russians also had considerable assistance from the United States and its allies then. The reverse is true now.
